Certificate in National Preparedness and Homeland Security

 PURPOSE

 The goal of the certificate program is to equip students with up-to-date skills and knowledge that prepare them to be successful problem solvers across a range of preparedness-related professions. Certificate students will gain a solid foundation in core concepts and procedures central to preparedness, homeland security, and emergency management. This background, together with hands-on experiences offered through the program, will:

For current professionals:
  1. Enhance career development in the emergency professions for those with an undergraduate degree;
  2. Provide knowledge and training useful for leadership positions in government, industry, and non-profits;
  3. Allow their organizations to maintain expertise in evolving risk management practices.
For future professionals:
  1. Offer excellent preparation for careers in the emergency professions;
  2. Provide specialized training that may lead to certification through one or more professional organizations.

 RELATIONSHIP TO PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS

 Professional credentials are offered by organizations such as the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM), the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), and Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRI). The certificate program will develop knowledge and skills aligned with standards set by these organizations, so that certificate holders will be better equipped to take credentialing exams such as the Certified Emergency Manager (IAEM) and Certified Business Continuity Professional (DRI).

 "The Certificate in National Preparedness and Homeland Security would be a great adjunct to Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) certification."
