Mike Burks joined Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) in 2000 where he managed infrastructure analysis and assessments of electric power, natural gas, petroleum, transportation, water, and chemical systems. In his current role as a Senior Engineer with the Mission Assurance Division NSWCDD he manages a number of projects which relate to energy security and crisis response. He has 23 years of direct utility experience with a large southeastern electric utility company conducting and managing engineering, design, maintenance/operations of electric transmission and distribution systems, and served as project manager for extensive transmission line projects. As part of his duties at the utility company, he testified before the State Corporation Commission on transmission line routing issues, including the potential human health effects of power line frequency electric and magnetic fields. He has published a number of technical papers relating to high voltage transmission lines. |
